Oh, my god. So very, very perfect.
I listened to it on audiobook and if you want to take an already incredible book and just exponentially skyrocket it into extra double incredibleness, listen to this on audiobook. It's narrated by Jane Carr and her performance is spot on. It's droll, cutting, warm, cold, perfect for Mantel's short stories.
The stories are dark, circuitous, insightful, and incisive.
There are many writers out there I adore and I love their works, but typically I'm not jealous of what they do simply because their novels are not what I would want to write. These stories, though, these are the stories I'm jealous of, the stories I wish I could create.
